Apple has unveiled new features for Quick Look in visionOS 2, significantly enhancing how users interact with 3D content on Apple Vision Pro. Introduced at WWDC 2024, these updates provide users with more immersive and customizable 3D previews, leveraging the power of visionOS.

In-App and Windowed Previews

Quick Look in visionOS 2 now supports two distinct preview methods: in-app style and windowed. In-app style allows users to preview 3D objects directly within a scene without opening a separate interface, offering a seamless and intuitive experience. On the other hand, windowed Quick Look enables users to view multiple 3D objects in a single overlay window, simplifying the process of cycling through various items.

Developer Tools and APIs

To facilitate these enhanced previews, Apple has introduced the PreviewApplication API, utilizing SwiftUI and concurrency. This API allows developers to integrate Quick Look into their visionOS apps with minimal code, enabling them to offer both individual and grouped 3D previews. Additionally, the new Configurations feature lets users customize 3D objects in real-time, adjusting options such as size, color, and texture.

Apple’s Quick Look updates in visionOS 2 mark a significant step forward in 3D content interaction. These features not only improve the user experience on Apple Vision Pro but also empower developers to create more dynamic and engaging apps. As visionOS continues to evolve, Quick Look is set to become a cornerstone of Apple’s immersive computing platform.
