Apple plans to switch entirely to OLED displays for all iPhones by 2025. This includes the iPhone SE 4, which will launch in early 2025. The move marks a significant departure from LCD technology, affecting suppliers like Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp.

iPhone SE 4 Gets OLED Display

The iPhone SE, Apple’s budget-friendly option, has been the last model to use an LCD screen. However, reports suggest that the fourth-generation iPhone SE will feature an OLED display, following Apple’s premium models. Apple has placed OLED screen orders with South Korean and Chinese manufacturers, specifically LG Display and BOE(Japan no longer iPhone …)(iPhone SE 4 will finall…). OLED technology offers better contrast, vibrant colors, and improved energy efficiency, making it an attractive upgrade for users of the SE model.

Japanese Suppliers Face a Setback

This transition means that Japanese suppliers like JDI and Sharp will no longer be part of Apple’s iPhone supply chain. Both companies have been key providers of LCD panels for Apple. However, with Apple moving to OLED for its premium models, their role has declined(Japan no longer iPhone …).

Samsung currently holds about 50% of Apple’s OLED market share, with LG Display and BOE covering the rest. Since JDI and Sharp do not produce OLED displays for smartphones, their supply of LCD panels will likely end with the iPhone SE 3.

What’s Next for the iPhone SE 4?

The iPhone SE 4, expected in early 2025, will benefit from this OLED upgrade. It is also rumored to feature a design similar to the iPhone 14 and new chip technology(iPhone SE 4 will finall…). This upgrade will make the iPhone SE more competitive in the mid-range market.

Apple’s decision to switch to OLED across all models shows its commitment to offering cutting-edge technology, even in its budget-friendly devices.
