Apple Faces Quebec Lawsuit Over iPhone Water Resistance

A new class-action lawsuit in Quebec is challenging Apple over its iPhone water resistance claims. The case, led by LPC Avocats, accuses the tech giant of advertising iPhones as water-resistant while refusing to repair devices damaged by water under warranty.

The Heart of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit centers on Apple’s marketing versus its warranty policies. Apple promotes its iPhones as water-resistant but excludes liquid damage repairs from the warranty. Lawyer Joey Zukran, representing a student whose iPhone stopped working after falling into water, calls this policy misleading and unfair.

A History of Consumer Protection Claims

This isn’t the first time Apple has faced legal action in Quebec. In 2018, the company was sued for failing to inform customers about Quebec’s warranty laws. These laws require manufacturers to guarantee the reasonable lifespan of their products.

Potential Outcomes

The lawsuit aims to cancel Apple’s liquid damage warranty exclusion. It also seeks compensation for affected customers and $500 for anyone joining the suit. Zukran argues that Quebec law mandates companies to uphold their marketing promises, making this a key case for consumer rights.
