Apple’s iPhone 16 series has had a mixed reception in its pre-order sales. A recent analysis by renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reveals a significant drop in demand for the Pro and Pro Max models. Over the first weekend, Apple sold an estimated 37 million units. This marks a 12.7% drop compared to the launch of the iPhone 15.
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus Lead Sales
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have become the top sellers during this pre-order period. The iPhone 16 Plus, in particular, has seen a 48% increase in sales compared to the iPhone 15 Plus. The regular iPhone 16 has also performed well, with a 10% year-on-year sales improvement.
Pro Models Struggle
However, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models have not met expectations. Sales of the iPhone 16 Pro dropped by 27% compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 16 Pro Max saw a 16% decline. One reason for this could be the delayed release of Apple Intelligence, a highly anticipated feature of iOS 18. This feature will be introduced gradually in the coming months, which may have impacted initial demand for the Pro models.
Looking Ahead
Despite this, Apple remains hopeful. The company ramped up production for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, producing around six million units ahead of the launch. Apple is also preparing for the holiday season, which could boost sales. Additionally, the eventual rollout of Apple Intelligence may help drive demand for the Pro models.
Although early sales of the Pro models have been disappointing, the coming months will be key in determining the iPhone 16 series’ success.
