Apple has officially launched tvOS 18, bringing new features and improvements for Apple TV users. The update, which exited its beta phase, introduces enhanced functionality, better accessibility options, and a more engaging viewing experience. Here’s what users can expect from the latest update.
Key Enhancements: Screen Savers, Subtitles, and Audio Improvements
One of the standout features of tvOS 18 is InSight, a tool designed to offer more information about the actors, background details, and music in Apple TV+ content. This feature, currently limited to Apple originals, is expected to expand to other services in the future. Additionally, the update introduces new Snoopy and Woodstock-themed screen savers, along with others that showcase natural landscapes and scenic city views.
Subtitles have also been made smarter
When users scroll back in the timeline, subtitles automatically enable to display the missed dialogue. Moreover, when the TV is muted, subtitles automatically appear, ensuring no information is missed during quiet scenes.
In terms of audio, Apple Intelligence has been integrated into tvOS 18’s dialog enhancement feature. This upgrade allows users to isolate and boost dialogue, making conversations clearer without compromising background sound. Whether using a HomePod or AirPods, this feature ensures an immersive audio experience.
Accessibility and SharePlay Updates
Apple has focused on improving accessibility with real-time subtitles for FaceTime, which offers live transcription, making video chats easier for everyone. Additionally, SharePlay has been expanded to allow collaborative playlist creation within Apple Music. This lets users enjoy group music sessions, even if only one user has a subscription.
A More Personalized Experience
With the new update, users can now customize their Apple TV home screen by choosing between five or six icons per row, making navigation smoother. For those using home cinema projectors, tvOS 18 adds support for a 21:9 aspect ratio, enhancing the viewing experience.
