Since launching the transcription feature with iOS 17.4, Apple has steadily increased its support for international shows, allowing more users to enjoy podcasts in their native language.
New Languages Supported in Apple Podcasts
Apple has added Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Italian, Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese to its transcription feature. These new languages allow non-English-speaking users to follow podcasts more easily. The rollout of these languages will happen gradually, starting with newer episodes. Users can recognize transcribed episodes by spotting a speech bubble icon on the playback screen.
How Transcriptions Enhance User Experience
Listeners can now follow along with podcasts as text highlights sections in real-time while the audio plays. This helps users stay engaged with the content, especially when they want to focus on specific points. Additionally, tapping on a word in the transcript takes listeners directly to that part of the recording. This feature makes it easier for people with hearing impairments or those who prefer reading to stay connected with their favorite shows.
