Apple is working with Taiwanese display manufacturer Novatek to develop an ultra-thin display for the upcoming iPhone 17 series. This series may include a new “iPhone 17 Air” model, which could be Apple’s slimmest iPhone yet. Novatek will supply Apple with OLED TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration) technology, combining touch and display functions into one chip. This approach allows for thinner and more efficient screens.

Novatek’s Cutting-Edge Technology

Novatek, a leading supplier of display driver ICs, plans to start mass production of OLED TDDI technology in the second quarter of 2025. TDDI integrates the touch and display drivers into a single component, reducing the screen’s thickness and improving power efficiency. By eliminating separate parts, Apple can create a slimmer and more energy-efficient iPhone display.

This collaboration with Novatek could provide Apple a competitive edge. Industry reports suggest Apple might extend this technology to other devices, like iPads and Apple Watches, after its debut in the iPhone 17 series.

Expected Features of the iPhone 17 Air

The iPhone 17 lineup, expected in 2025, will likely showcase several new features. Besides the thin design enabled by Novatek’s technology, Apple may introduce its latest A19 chip. The Pro models could feature advanced 2-nanometer chips from TSMC, enhancing performance and energy efficiency.

Rumors hint at further upgrades, such as adjustable camera apertures and a front-facing camera with higher resolution. The “iPhone 17 Air” might feature a single camera due to its slim profile, reminiscent of earlier iPhone models.

Apple’s Push for Innovation

This partnership with Novatek may set the stage for even thinner Apple devices in the future. Adopting OLED TDDI technology aligns with Apple’s goal of pushing mobile design boundaries. As users value portability and efficiency, Apple’s move toward integrated, slim technology could shape its upcoming products.

The iPhone 17 series promises sleek design and enhanced features. For Apple fans, 2025 could bring a groundbreaking, ultra-thin iPhone that leads in display innovation.
