Apple will launch its annual Swift Student Challenge in February 2025, inviting young coders to test their skills. Submissions will be open for three weeks, giving students a chance to showcase their creativity with Swift, Apple’s app development language. Since 2020, this competition has provided a platform for students to share their innovations and join a global Swift developer community.

A Platform for Future Developers

The Swift Student Challenge has become a key part of Apple’s efforts to support the next generation of developers. This year, 350 winners will receive recognition based on creativity, impact, and technical skill. Apple will select 50 Distinguished Winners from this group, who will gain extra recognition and an invitation to Apple’s Cupertino headquarters next summer.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, shared her excitement for the challenge. “At Apple, we are committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of coders. Every year, we’re incredibly impressed by the ingenuity of the apps students are creating,” she said.

Resources for Aspiring Coders

Apple has provided resources to help students prepare for the competition. The Swift Coding Club offers a starter kit with activities that promote app development using Swift and SwiftUI. These materials encourage students to explore coding while sharing their passion with others. Additionally, Apple has released new tutorials, called Develop in Swift, designed to introduce students to app development with Swift, SwiftUI, and Xcode.

Apple has also created an online guide on the Swift Student Challenge website. Students, educators, and advocates can visit the site for tips on preparing submissions. They can also sign up for notifications about the application process at developer.apple.com.

Building a Tech-Ready Future

The Swift Student Challenge highlights Apple’s commitment to empowering young people through technology. Apple hopes the competition will inspire the next wave of app developers. By providing a platform to build real-world skills, Apple continues to invest in its developer ecosystem.

As the Swift Student Challenge opens in February, young coders worldwide will have a chance to make their mark. The competition offers recognition, a sense of community, and the opportunity to connect with a global network of developers.
