Apple has released a firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2, adding essential Hearing Health features. The update, launched on October 24, raises the firmware build to 7B19 and introduces clinical-grade hearing support, which Apple initially announced at WWDC in June 2024.

Key Health Features Now Available

This update includes a Hearing Test, Hearing Aid support, and Hearing Protection. These features aim to help users with mild to moderate hearing loss. With FDA approval received in September, AirPods Pro 2 can now function as clinical-grade hearing aids. This enhancement offers hearing assistance without needing a separate hearing device, making it more accessible for users.

Automatic Firmware Update

The firmware installs automatically when AirPods Pro 2 are in their charging case and connected to an iOS device. While Apple has not enabled a manual update option, users can check their firmware version through the Settings app. By going to “General” > “About” > [AirPods], users can confirm their current firmware.

iOS 18.1 Support Coming Soon

The new hearing features will receive full support with Apple’s upcoming iOS 18.1, set to release on October 28. The update also enhances Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI tools integrated across Apple devices. With these additions, Apple strengthens its commitment to accessible technology and inclusive design.

The latest firmware update positions AirPods Pro 2 at the intersection of consumer tech and medical-grade functionality. This blend of convenience and health support marks another step in Apple’s mission to improve accessibility through innovation.
