Apple has announced a free repair program for iPhone 14 Plus models suffering from a rear camera defect. According to the company, a small percentage of devices manufactured between April 10 and April 28, 2023, are affected. The issue prevents the rear camera from displaying a preview when taking photos, making the feature unusable.
Checking Eligibility and Repair Options
Apple has launched a dedicated web page where users can check if their device is eligible for a free repair. By entering their iPhone’s serial number, users can confirm if their unit is affected. If so, Apple will fix the problem at no cost, regardless of the phone’s warranty status.
To get the repair, affected users can visit an Apple retail store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Those who don’t live near a service location can arrange a mail-in repair through Apple Support. However, it’s important to note that the program does not extend the device’s existing warranty but covers affected units for up to three years from the original purchase date. Given that the iPhone 14 Plus was released in September 2022, the repair program will run until September 2025.
Refunds for Past Repairs
Apple is also offering reimbursements to users who previously paid to repair the rear camera issue. To claim a refund, eligible customers should contact Apple Support and provide proof of the earlier repair.
What Users Need to Know
While this repair program provides relief for many, some users are expressing concern about the reliability of recent iPhone models. Still, Apple’s proactive approach to addressing the defect may reassure customers. The company’s quick response and free repair option aim to maintain consumer trust and ensure the functionality of its devices.
