Londoners are in for a treat this holiday season as Wallace & Gromit light up the iconic Battersea Power Station. Apple’s UK headquarters is hosting a stunning six-minute stop-motion animation featuring the beloved duo, showcasing a unique blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless storytelling.
Running daily from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. until New Year’s Eve, this free event transforms the landmark’s 101-meter-high chimneys into Christmas trees. The animation depicts Wallace and Gromit decorating the trees in their signature whimsical style, battling mischievous antics from Feathers McGraw.
Innovation Behind the Scenes
The award-winning animation studio Aardman created the short film entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Using eight devices with 5x Telephoto cameras, the team captured over 6,000 high-resolution images in ProRAW format. These images were stitched together to produce a stunning 6K video, demonstrating the iPhone’s potential as a professional-grade creative tool.
“This project has been a dream to direct,” said Gavin Strange, director at Aardman. “Combining stop-motion with the advanced capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro Max has created something truly unique and joyful.”
Apple’s Commitment to Creativity
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, praised the collaboration: “Wallace & Gromit are iconic, and it’s wonderful to see their ingenuity paired with the advanced technology of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This installation is a perfect way to celebrate the holidays in London.”
Visitors can also explore behind-the-scenes elements of the animation at Apple’s retail store at Battersea Power Station. Additionally, Apple is hosting “Today at Apple” sessions led by Aardman to inspire budding creators.
A Celebration of Art and Technology
Apple’s Battersea headquarters, inaugurated in 2023, reflects its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Powered entirely by renewable energy, the campus has become a hub for creativity and collaboration.
As Wallace and Gromit bring festive joy to the Thames’ skyline, this project embodies the magic that happens when art meets technology. It’s a must-see for Londoners and visitors alike this holiday season.
