A recent survey by Setapp reveals that almost half of Apple developers remain uncertain about supporting the Apple Vision Pro. While some developers explore the platform’s potential, others hesitate due to unclear market prospects and technical challenges.
Developers Focus on AI Instead
The survey shows that 60% of developers are actively integrating AI features into their apps, a sharp rise from 50% in 2023. In contrast, only 35% of developers have concrete plans to create apps for the Vision Pro.
Iykola Savin, MacPaw’s Director of Product Management, stated, “AI continues to dominate the tech landscape, and we expect even greater adoption in 2025.” Savin highlighted how developers prioritize AI over Vision Pro as they aim to stay relevant in the rapidly evolving tech ecosystem.
Challenges in Vision Pro Adoption
Developers cite several barriers to adopting the Vision Pro platform. Uncertainty about consumer demand and the high cost of development are major concerns. Despite its innovative visionOS system, the platform’s unclear path to widespread adoption makes some developers hesitant to invest resources.
Additionally, the survey indicates that developers are shifting away from the Mac App Store. Only 20% now rely solely on the store, with many exploring alternative platforms like Setapp to distribute their apps.
A Changing Tech Landscape
While Vision Pro faces challenges, Apple remains optimistic about its future. The device represents a bold step in mixed-reality computing, promising immersive experiences for work and entertainment. However, the focus on AI tools underscores how developers are adapting to current market demands.
As the tech industry heads into 2025, Apple’s Vision Pro faces an uphill battle to win developer support. Its success will likely depend on how well Apple addresses developer concerns and demonstrates the platform’s potential profitability. In the meantime, AI continues to dominate developer priorities, shaping the future of app innovation.
