Apple has launched its Tap to Pay on iPhone service in Chile and Egypt, extending its contactless payment solution to more regions. This innovative feature allows merchants to accept payments using only an iPhone, removing the need for separate payment devices. The expansion aligns with Apple’s mission to make digital transactions easier and more accessible worldwide.

Simplifying Payments for Merchants

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, businesses can accept payments simply by holding their iPhone near another device, such as a customer’s phone or card. This eliminates the need for traditional contactless payment terminals. The feature supports multiple payment methods, including Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets.

Strategic Partnerships in Egypt

In Egypt, Apple collaborated with three leading banks to facilitate the rollout. This initiative was supported by the Central Bank of Egypt’s updated guidelines for electronic payment services, introduced in 2023. These regulatory changes created a pathway for Apple to launch its payment solution, highlighting the growing shift towards digital financial systems in the region.

Accelerating Global Expansion

Since its debut in the United States in 2022, Tap to Pay has expanded to 20 countries, including the United Kingdom and the UAE. The recent launches in Chile and Egypt signal Apple’s accelerated efforts to reach new markets. These back-to-back expansions in December 2024 demonstrate the company’s commitment to broadening its global footprint.

A Cashless Future Takes Shape

Tap to Pay on iPhone reflects Apple’s dedication to promoting digital-first payment solutions. By enabling businesses to accept payments directly through their devices, the service simplifies transactions and reduces dependency on cash.

Merchants in Chile and Egypt can now streamline their payment processes, benefiting from a system designed for efficiency and convenience. As Apple continues to expand this feature, its vision of a cashless future becomes increasingly tangible.
