Apple’s next-generation iPhone 17 may sport a dramatically redesigned rear camera, shifting from its traditional corner placement to a horizontal “camera bar,” according to new leaks. If accurate, this layout will mark a significant departure from previous iPhone designs.

New Layout Inspired by Rumors

The rumor originated from a popular leaker, Digital Chat Station, on the Chinese platform Weibo. Based on supply chain insights, the iPhone 17 Slim may feature a row of cameras across the upper back of the phone, resembling a strip-like design. A leaked mock-up suggests the layout could house three camera lenses with a flash positioned on one side.

This rumor gained further traction when a supposed iPhone 17 frame image appeared on social media platform X, posted by the user “Jukanlosreve.” The chassis image aligns with earlier claims, showcasing a bar-style bump at the device’s top edge.

Design Challenges and Feasibility

While this design choice is visually bold, it raises questions about practicality. Historically, Apple has maintained a distinct rear-camera style that sets iPhones apart from competing devices like Google’s Pixel series, which already features a similar bar arrangement.

Critics argue that the rumored camera strip could complicate internal design, especially in slimmer models like the rumored iPhone 17 Slim. Apple may also face challenges integrating the TrueDepth front camera system for Face ID while ensuring device stability.

A Possible Single-Camera Approach?

Some reports suggest Apple might eliminate certain camera components, such as the telephoto lens, in non-Pro models like the iPhone 17 Slim. To maintain image quality, Apple could rely on a high-resolution sensor capable of simulating optical zoom. This approach would align with Apple’s focus on reducing design bulk while maintaining camera performance.

The Road Ahead

As always, these design leaks should be approached with caution, as Apple’s final product could differ. The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to debut in late 2025, giving Apple ample time to finalize its design.

If the rumored camera bar becomes a reality, it would mark a striking evolution in iPhone aesthetics and functionality.
