Apple has rolled out a new feature that enables users to transfer purchases between Apple Accounts, a long-awaited change that enhances flexibility for those managing multiple accounts. The update, which was quietly announced via an official support document, marks a significant shift in Apple’s digital ecosystem.

What the New Feature Offers

For years, Apple users have had to juggle multiple accounts to keep their App Store and iCloud purchases separate. While Family Sharing allowed shared access to apps and media, it did not provide a way to permanently move purchases from one account to another. With this update, Apple has finally addressed this issue by introducing a direct migration process.

Users can now consolidate their purchases under a single Apple Account, making it easier to manage subscriptions, media libraries, and app downloads. However, this feature is not available globally. Apple has restricted purchase migration in regions such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, and India.

How to Migrate Purchases

Apple has streamlined the process for transferring purchases, making it accessible through the device’s settings. To initiate a migration, users need to:

  1. Open the Settings app and tap their Apple Account name.
  2. Select “Media and Purchases.”
  3. Scroll down and tap on “Migrate Purchases.”
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Once the migration is successful, users receive confirmation emails for both the source and destination accounts. Notably, after completing the transfer, the original account used for purchases will no longer be valid for new transactions.

Limitations and Eligibility

While the feature provides more control over digital purchases, Apple has set strict requirements for eligibility. Both accounts must be registered in the same country, have two-factor authentication enabled, and use valid payment methods. Additionally, Family Sharing must be disabled before proceeding with a migration.

Apple has also stated that purchases from accounts that are locked, deactivated, or deleted cannot be transferred. Moreover, the primary account must have been used at least once for app or media purchases before migration is allowed.

A Step Toward Greater Flexibility

This new feature reflects Apple’s ongoing efforts to offer more convenience to its users while maintaining security and compliance with digital licensing rules. By allowing the migration of purchases, Apple acknowledges the real-world need for account consolidation without requiring users to start over with new purchases.

For those managing multiple Apple Accounts, this update is a welcome improvement, simplifying access to purchased content and reducing account management headaches. As Apple continues to refine its ecosystem, users can look forward to even more enhancements in digital content management.
