Ubisoft has officially released Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the newest installment in its iconic franchise, on Mac, PC, and consoles. The game is now available on the macOS App Store for $69.99, marking a rare same-day launch for Apple users alongside other platforms.
This release takes the Assassin’s Creed series to 16th-century Japan, where players step into the roles of two contrasting characters — Naoe, a stealthy shinobi, and Yasuke, a legendary samurai. This dual-character setup brings unique gameplay styles, blending covert missions with high-impact combat.

Stunning Visuals and Historical Detail
Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers players an immersive experience with dynamic environments. Biomes, lighting, and weather shift in real-time, adding depth and realism. The game runs on Apple Silicon Macs with M1 or newer chips, but those using M3 or M4 chips will benefit from hardware-accelerated ray tracing for even more lifelike visuals.
Ubisoft aimed for historical accuracy, paying close attention to small details like the texture of wooden buildings and traditional materials. Additionally, the game is available in both English and Japanese, reinforcing its cultural authenticity.
A Milestone for Mac Gaming
This release marks a major step for Apple’s gaming future. Traditionally, Triple-A titles arrive on Mac years after their initial launch — if at all. But Ubisoft’s decision to roll out Assassin’s Creed Shadows on all platforms at once shows growing confidence in Mac gaming.
Despite earlier delays, Ubisoft stuck to its promise and delivered a simultaneous release. An iPad version is also in the works, though no release date has been announced.
Final Thoughts
Whether sneaking through shadows or clashing swords in open combat, players now have the freedom to explore a richly crafted world on the platform of their choice. With this launch, Ubisoft not only expands the Assassin’s Creed universe but also sets a new benchmark for cross-platform game releases.
