Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced that the company will donate to relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. The 7.7-magnitude quake struck near Sagaing, Myanmar, and caused widespread destruction.

Cook shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Our hearts go out to all those in Myanmar and Thailand affected by the devastating earthquake. Apple is donating to support relief efforts on the ground,” he wrote.

Second Quake and Ongoing Aftershocks

Just 12 minutes after the first quake, a second tremor hit with a magnitude of 6.4. Several aftershocks followed, one as strong as 5.1.

Thailand, though not as severely hit, still reported 18 deaths. Damage spread as far as Bangkok, which is over 600 miles from the epicenter. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors and recover those who didn’t make it.

Apple’s Track Record of Global Aid

Apple has consistently contributed to disaster relief around the world. In recent years, it donated to communities affected by hurricanes in South Florida and the Caribbean. The company also provided aid after major floods in Brazil and Pakistan.

Apple usually sends its donations through trusted organizations like the Red Cross. These contributions help provide emergency supplies, medical support, and shelter.

Leading by Example

Apple’s quick response to the Southeast Asia quake shows its ongoing commitment to global humanitarian aid. While known for innovation, the company also uses its influence to support people in need.

As Myanmar and Thailand begin the long road to recovery, Apple’s action offers both practical help and a message of solidarity.
