Apple Labor Cases Paused After Lawyer Joins NLRB

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has paused two major labor complaints against Apple. The delay follows the appointment of Crystal Carey, a former Apple lawyer, as the NLRB’s new general counsel under the Trump administration.

Workers’ Complaints Put on Hold

Former Apple employees Janneke Parrish and Cher Scarlett led the complaints. Parrish claims Apple fired her for organizing the #AppleToo movement. Scarlett, another organizer, filed a separate complaint before settling and leaving the company.

Both cases were moving toward trial. However, the NLRB recently informed the former employees that the complaints will now go through the agency’s “division of advice,” which reviews legal direction.

In earlier rulings, the NLRB found Apple had coerced staff during union discussions. It also accused Apple of limiting workers’ use of social media.

Critics Raise Concerns Over Fairness

The pause has sparked concern among labor advocates. Many worry that appointing someone who once worked for Apple may affect the board’s independence.

Neither Apple, the NLRB, nor the White House has commented on the situation. However, the timing of the delay raises questions about fairness and transparency.

Uncertainty for Organizers and Employees

With the legal process stalled, Parrish, Scarlett, and others face uncertainty. Their complaints highlight broader efforts to improve workplace conditions in the tech industry.

Supporters of labor rights fear this delay could weaken future union efforts at tech companies. For now, Apple avoids further legal challenges while the NLRB reevaluates the complaints.

The decision leaves many watching closely to see whether the board will protect employee rights or shift direction under its new leadership.
