Apple to Close Northbrook Court Store Without Replacement

Apple has confirmed it will permanently close its retail store at Northbrook Court in Illinois on April 26, 2025, ending nearly 20 years of service. Unlike most Apple store closures, this one comes with no plan to relocate or open a nearby replacement.

The closure marks a rare departure from Apple’s usual retail strategy, where shuttered locations are typically replaced by newer or larger flagship stores. In this case, the Northbrook store will disappear entirely from the company’s map.

Why Apple Is Leaving Northbrook

The Northbrook Court mall has struggled in recent years. Major tenants like Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, and Lululemon have exited the location. In response, the mall’s owner, Brookfield Property Partners, is launching an $825 million redevelopment plan. It includes upscale shops and an affordable housing complex.

Apple’s decision to close rather than relocate may reflect broader shifts in customer behavior and local foot traffic. It may also signal the company’s preference to invest in higher-performing retail hubs.

No Replacement Store Planned

Although Apple has historically used closures to transition into new spaces—like its Tysons Corner move in Virginia—this closure is different. There are no announced plans for a new Apple store in the Northbrook area.

Instead, the company is directing customers to nearby locations, including Apple Old Orchard in Skokie, Apple Deer Park, and Apple Woodfield in Schaumburg. Apple has also encouraged users to shop online or use virtual support options.

Employees Will Stay with Apple

The company noted that existing Northbrook store employees will remain with Apple. Most are expected to transfer to other locations, avoiding layoffs.

The Northbrook Apple Store originally opened in July 2005 and moved once within the mall in 2017. When it closes later this month, it will mark the end of an era for local customers and retail staff alike.
