Tom Hanks will reprise his role as Captain Krause in a new Greyhound sequel. This time, the story expands beyond the Atlantic to include battles at D-Day and across the Pacific. Apple Original Films is partnering again with Hanks’ Playtone production company and director Aaron Schneider.

Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2026 in Sydney, Australia. The movie will likely premiere on Apple TV+ sometime in 2027.

Production Location Raises Concerns

Although fans are excited, some U.S. industry groups have criticized the move to film in Australia. They argue that moving jobs overseas hurts American crews, especially after Hollywood’s recent strikes.

Still, filming internationally is becoming a common trend. Studios often seek lower costs and better resources outside the United States.

What to Expect in the Sequel

The first Greyhound premiered on Apple TV+ in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Viewers praised its intense naval battles and tight pacing. Based on C.S. Forester’s novel The Good Shepherd, the original film followed a convoy fighting to survive attacks by German U-boats.

The sequel will carry the story to the beaches of Normandy and the Pacific Theater. Apple hopes to bring back several original cast members, including Stephen Graham, who recently starred in Adolescence.

Apple TV+ Invests in WWII Stories

The new Greyhound film adds to Apple TV+’s growing slate of World War II content. It follows the success of Masters of the Air, another Apple-backed project focused on WWII heroes.

With Hanks leading the way once again, Apple continues to position itself as a hub for powerful historical dramas.

Fans can look forward to another gripping chapter when Greyhound sails back onto screens.
